The Freesax Foundation has become aware of a situation that needs your help! The Long Beach Junior Concert Band, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, is about lose its rehearsal hall, office, and storage space due to budgetary restrictions within the city of Long Beach. The Band has been told to vacate the location by June or July.
The Band is looking for a space with room to rehearse and store its equipment, “Imagine if you will a High School Marching Band and all the equipment, uniforms, vehicles, and other items associated with it suddenly being left with no home,” the Band said in a statement.
Along with the support it received in the past from the city, The Band is largely self-supporting through fundraising and donations, and has provided a refuge for many at-risk youth, bringing music into their lives and helping to turn them around. If you or anyone you know can help locate a space for the Band, it would be able to continue doing its amazing work. It would be a terrible shame for a volunteer band with so much history and success in its 60 years of operation to have nowhere to go. The Freesax Foundation is reaching out to its network of supporters to ask if you have any contacts that may have rehearsal, office, or storage space available for this worthy cause.
